American Tobacco Historic District

American Tobacco is a registered historic site with roots in the American Tobacco Factory established in the 1800s.

Painstaking renovation has preserved the integrity of the original factory buildings, while adding spectacular modern features such as the man-made Old Bull River, which runs through the middle of the campus.

The American Tobacco Campus is located beside the Durham Bulls Triple-A baseball park, adjacent to a new 2,800-seat performing arts center (opening in 2008), and bordered by the highly traveled NC-147. The campus features an on-site YMCA, public green space and biking trails, and five restaurants. American Tobacco is home to some of the most prominent businesses in the region, including the nationally recognized public broadcasting station, WUNC Radio.

The area continues to undergo renovation and eventually will include 380 residential units, additional commercial office space and 40,000 square feet of retail and restaurants.
